The World Trade Center Illinois has been requested by Director Jack Lavin of the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity to coordinate the awarding of the Governor's Export Award 2008. This event is designed to recognize local Illinois businesses and entities for their contributions to international trade in Illinois. The criteria for the submission of a recommendation is quite broad because some people would make a recommendation based on the amount of gross sales, or on the number of new jobs, or percentage of increased profits, or creativity of new ideas for increasing trading. The recommendations can be for companies engaged in any sector, agriculture, manufacturing, academic or service sectors. The recommendations can be for businesses, persons, projects or courses that add to our international trading capability. The recommendations will be compiled by our staff and a committee will determine the awardees. We hope to have more than one awardee in order to emphasize the importance of growing international trade in every part of the State. The sizes of the businesses that we particularly encourage to involve are the small and medium size businesses that are the backbone of the Illinois economy.
